GLP-1 diet plan

You are trying to eat well on a much smaller appetite.

Reference and calculator, not medical advice. This page explains how something works; it does not tell you what to take. Last reviewed August 2026.

Most published meal plans assume the hard part is eating less. On a GLP-1 that part is handled, often aggressively. The planning problem is the reverse: fitting adequate protein and micronutrients into a volume of food that may be a fraction of what you are used to.

Three structural principles follow from that, and they are worth more than any specific menu. Protein first, because it is the hardest target to hit and the one with consequences for lean mass. Smaller and more frequent, because volume is the binding constraint. Nutrient density over calorie counting, because under-eating is the more likely failure mode.

Common questions

How much protein should I aim for?
A number worth setting with a clinician or dietitian who knows your weight, activity and goals. The general point that applies to everyone: it is higher than what a much-reduced appetite will deliver by accident, so it needs planning.
What does "protein first" mean in practice?
Eating the protein component of a meal before the rest, on the assumption that fullness may arrive before the plate is finished. It costs nothing to try and directly addresses the volume constraint.
Are shakes a reasonable approach?
Liquid protein is often better tolerated when volume is the constraint, which is why it comes up so frequently in this context. Whether it suits you is individual.
What should I avoid?
Reports cluster around high-fat and fried foods, large single sittings, and alcohol — all consistent with slowed gastric emptying. Most people end up with a personal list rather than a universal one.
Do I need to change anything on maintenance?
Appetite and tolerance often shift once a dose stabilises. Worth revisiting rather than assuming the pattern from your first weeks holds permanently.

This page is general reference rather than a dosing table, so it quotes no figures from a label. Nothing here is reviewed by a clinician, and this site does not employ one — which is exactly why what I do publish stays traceable to its source.
