Forum threads on this topic are genuinely useful for one thing and actively misleading for another. They are useful for texture — when people noticed it, what it looked like, what they asked their prescriber. They are misleading for frequency, because a thread has no denominator.
Everyone who did not experience hair loss had no reason to post in a hair loss thread. That is not a flaw in the people posting; it is the structure of the medium. A hundred replies describing shedding tell you a hundred people experienced it, and nothing whatsoever about how many did not.
What each label actually reports
Incidence figures come from the adverse-reaction sections of the prescribing information. The two weight-management products report trial data; the diabetes products list alopecia only as a postmarketing report.

A postmarketing entry means the reaction has been reported after approval but the label gives no rate, because spontaneous reports have no denominator. It is not evidence that the rate is lower — only that it was not measured. Every figure above is checked against the label linked at the foot of this page.
The trials supply exactly what the threads cannot. In the pooled Wegovy data, 3.3% of people on 2.4 mg reported hair loss against 1% on placebo. In the Zepbound trials, 7.1% of women and 0.5% of men. Those figures come with a denominator and a comparison group, which is the whole difference between a rate and an impression.
The clearest number in any of the labels
Wegovy trials, women only, same measurement across three arms. Rate rises with dose while the label attributes the effect to weight reduction rather than to the drug.
Men in the same trials: 0% · 0% · 0.2%. The sex difference is larger than the dose difference, which is the part almost no summary of this topic mentions.
Why the women’s figure for 2.4 mg differs from the table above: these three arms come from the 7.2 mg trial programme, while the other figure is pooled from three earlier weight-management trials. Both are in the label and both report 3.3% overall at 2.4 mg — the sex split differs because the trial populations do. Both are shown rather than picking the more striking one.
Common questions
- So the forums are exaggerating?
- Not exaggerating — self-selecting. Each individual account may be entirely accurate. The aggregate simply cannot be read as a frequency, and it is the aggregate impression that drives people to worry.
- What are threads actually good for?
- Questions the label does not answer at all: how people described the timing, what their prescriber checked, what it was like to wait it out. The labels are silent on all of that, and lived accounts are the only source that is not.
- Why does this page not quote specific posts?
- Because a quoted anecdote would inherit the same problem while looking like evidence. Everything on this site is traceable to a source document, and a forum post is not one.
Sources and last review
This page is general reference rather than a dosing table, so it quotes no figures from a label. Nothing here is reviewed by a clinician, and this site does not employ one — which is exactly why what I do publish stays traceable to its source.
