The needle is usually what drives this question, so it is worth being concrete about what the injection actually involves before comparing it to a tablet. These are subcutaneous injections given with a short, fine needle — most people use a pre-filled pen where the dose is already set and nothing is measured.

The trade the tablets ask for in return is a daily routine with rules attached. The label requires taking them on an empty stomach in the morning with at most four ounces of water, then waiting at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking other oral medications. A weekly injection asks for a few seconds once a week and nothing else.
Where a pen is not involved and you are drawing from a vial, the arithmetic becomes the thing that goes wrong rather than the needle. That is what the converter below is for.

Check the concentration printed on the vial you are actually holding. The same dose in milligrams is a completely different mark on the syringe at a different concentration. If the number here does not match what your prescriber told you, trust your prescriber.
Common questions
- Which is less unpleasant day to day?
- Genuinely personal, and the labels do not address it. Some people find a weekly injection easier than remembering a fasted tablet every morning; others feel the opposite strongly.
- Do the pills avoid the stomach side effects?
- Gastrointestinal reactions are prominent in the labelling for oral semaglutide as well. Route does not remove them.
- Is one cheaper?
- Not something this site publishes numbers for, because pricing moves too fast to quote. Run the quotes you were actually given through the cost calculator.
